Reston Garden Club Growing Holiday Spirit

Members homegrown Christmas mugs just one of many good works year round.

It was truly shopping locally when the Reston Garden Club met at the on Tuesday to decorate holiday mugs with greens pruned from members' yards.

The greens are arranged and decorated with festive items such as berries, ribbons, pine cones, and Christmas balls.  The mugs will be distributed to recipients of

This is one of many community outreach activities engaged in by club members. Some of the other efforts  are that  preschoolers from the (supported by Reston Interfaith) are guided by club members to make fresh flower arrangements for mothers on Mother's Day.

The property and Sculpture Garden are maintained and often refurbished by the club. Also, landscaping assistance is given regarding the Reston/Herndon Closet garden in the rear of their building in Herndon.  Members of the Garden Club also maintain the Wildflower Trail and assist with garden plantings at the Nature Center.

Other good works by the Garden Club: A scholarship is given annually to a Reston child to attend the summer camp program. Trees and shrubs are planted in memory of deceased Garden Club members or their spouses. A tree was given to honor  Robert E. Simon and it was planted near the  Nature Center pond area. Four times a year, members clean up trash along Bowman Towne Drive.
