Reston National Ends Little League District 4 Run

Reston National All-Stars make a strong run in District 4 Majors Little League Tournament.

The Reston National All-Stars finished District 4 tournament play last week with a 4-1 record. 

National won its opening game, defeating Vienna American, 4-3, at Rhodes Field in Vienna.  Will Irwin drew a first inning walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Justin Taylor.  In the bottom of the second, Antonio Mussenden's triple to the right field corner drove in Owen Walker and Cooper Rosner.  Mussenden then scored on Ian Perkins' single to center.  Will Rippey earned the save.  Jack Weeks threw four strong innings to earn the win.

Reston National defeated McLean American, 4-2, at Fred Crabtree Park in Reston. Rosner's two-out single to right scored Walker in the bottom of the 2nd to give Reston a 1-0 lead.  In the 3rd inning, Reston scored 3 runs on two-out doubles by Taylor and Weeks.  Sam Kobayashi made an outstanding catch against the right field fence to end a McLean rally in the fourth.  Taylor won the game, and Rippey earned another save. The two pitchers were dominant on the mound, combining to throw only 66 total pitches in the game.

Reston traveled to Mason District and defeated the host team, 5-3.  In the bottom of the first, Grant Amman singled and then scored on Taylor's double. With the score tied, 2-2, in the bottom of the fith, National rallied for 3 runs. Rippey singled to right and then scored on Taylor's double to left center.  Avery Neaves then hit a two-run home run to right center on the eighth pitch of his at-bat. Walker won the game, striking out seven in four innings.  Rosner earned the save.

Reston's run of playing close games ended with the team's 13-2 defeat of Falls Church in 3 1/2 innings.  Reston scored 9 runs with 2 outs in the bottom of the 3rd.  Antonio Mussenden's single scored Greg Lynch.  Josh Taylor's single scored Mussenden.  Amann's double drove in Irwin and Taylor.  Rippey's single drove in Amman.  Rippey scored on Justin Taylor's home run to left.  Lynch's single scored Neaves.

With a 4-0 recored in pool play, Reston National entered the semi-finals as a No. 1 seed against eventual tournament champion Great Falls. Reston lost, 9-1, leaving 11 runners on base.
