A Differing Point of View - The Catholic Vote

This Sunday, Catholic Bishop of Arlington Bishop Paul Loverde and Bishop of Richmond Francis DiLorenzo  released a letter to their flocks urging that Catholic voters apply the principles of life, liberty, and faithful citizenship when they go to the polls on Nov. 6.

This counsel directly addresses the portions of the Democrat Party platform that violate Catholic doctrine. So much so, that Vice President Joe Biden’s bishop reportedly told Biden to “not present himself for Communion and to not espouse his views that violate Catholic Doctrine.”

In Reston, Catholic voters have two Democrats who are candidates for office: Tim Kaine for the U.S. Senate from Virginia and Gerry Connolly for the 11th District, VA in the U.S. House of Representatives. Both have placed their quest for office based on the Democrat Party Platform.

Their governance argument is based on the words in the New Testament “Give unto Caesar ….” Unfortunately, they forget the remaining part of that guidance “…and to GOD, the things that are GOD’s.”  Life, Liberty, and Faithful Citizenship are in the Supreme Being’s province. As such, our two, perhaps well-meaning candidates are in violation of our God-Given (as verified by our Founding Fathers’ words) rights and are subject to the same counsel Joe Biden received from his bishop. Both have earned the title of “CINO” – Catholic in Name Only.

Reston voters who are faithful Catholics do not have a choice in voting for these two gents. Aside from their misdeeds in governance, God’s Law prevails when evaluating  he value structure of these candidates: they also need to remember Our LORD’s dictum “No person can serve two masters…..”.   

The choice is simple: vote for life, liberty and exercise your faithful citizenship as our founding Fathers recognized.
