Home Tour Returns to Reston Oct. 19

Annual event offers a peek into some of Reston's most special residences.

Save the date: the 12th Annual Reston Home Tour returns to Reston on Oct. 19. The annual event is organized by and benefits the Reston Historic Trust.

Organizers say the event takes on special significance as Reston gets ready for its 50th anniversary (and founder Robert E. Simon's 100th birthday) in 2014.

Here is what you need to know:

* Besides the homes, the tour will have another special stop at Bow Tie Cinemas at Reston Town Center.

Two documentary films, one on Public Art in Reston, and the other the trailer for next year's film celebrating Reston's anniversary, will be shown at 11 a.m. and again at 2 p.m. followed by discussion with the filmmakers.

* A stop on the tour is the first house ever occupied in Reston.  Other homes include stops on Wild Bramble Way, Red Oak, Midtown Condos, Orchard Lane and Hemingway Drive, (exact locations and details on the ticket). There is also a wine tasting at The Wine Cabinet at North Point

* The self-guided event is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
