Reston Is For Lovers?

Aw, sweet. Foursquare names Reston seventh-most romantic place in the nation.

Ah, Valentine's Day is approaching. Perhaps a stroll through a winery in Napa, CA? Or a dinner for two at a swank place in New York City? Or a kiss by Mercury Fountain?

Foursquare, based on 1.5 million check-ins, has named the 10 most romantic (and 10 least romantic) places in the United States. Reston is ranked seventh.

Apparently, there is some canoodling going on in the horse-drawn carriage rides. Or at least some hookups at

Foursquare spokeswoman Laura Covington says the list was made with the following criteria: Cities with 100k+ foursquare check-ins that had the highest percentages of check-ins to places deemed romantic (French restaurants, wine bars, flower shops, lingerie shops, and jewelry stores) over the last year.

Reston ranks ahead of Key West, FL, Myrtle Beach, SC and Beverly Hills, CA in Foursquare's Top 10. The most romantic? That would be Lake Buena Vista, FL. (Home of Walt Disney World. That Cinderella was no dummy when it came to finding a prince).

The list ranks Beaverton, OR, as the least romantic.

5. New York, NY

Mr. Crankypants - I find Reston to be very romantic.

Good one Jen!!! I think during the holidays Reston is VERY ROMANTIC. Then again to each his / her own. Romance is what you make of it regardless of the venue albeit the venue sure can help!! Happy V-Day one and all!

http://www.startribune.com/lifestyle/138948459.html Looks like the Star Tribune reporting for the Twin Cities does NOT find Reston romantic.

Good find, Jenn! I don't find Reston UNromantic. The Mrs. and I are always walking around the trails holding hands. It's just the list itself. I've been to all those places and I could see SF, NYC, Napa, Key West, maybe Venice - they're all potentially romantic. But St. Louis? Myrtle Beach? Where is Savannah? Charleston, SC? New Orleans? Stowe, VT? Aspen? I don't know anything about the "check-in" methodology, but it is obviously and seriously flawed.

Eh, the Star Tribune writer just probably had not heard of Reston. San Fran and Key West, sure. But Reston? If you are not from around here, you for sure would say "What?" (And even some from around here are saying "what?"

Have to agree with Mr. Smarty. St. Louis? Myrtle Beach? Naw, not so much. I can testify to the romance of New Orleans, (the memory makes me swoon). Beverly Hills? Never.

Correct-o, Karen! I'm thinking Bob Simon will be very proud that Reston is on this list - he found love here on so many levels ;)

Better this than a soulless ant colony... notify Norfolk right away!

If you are at the most romantic spot in US, you won't bother checking-in. Sorry foursquare.
