Party on the Plaza for Founder's Day

A sunny spring Saturday is the perfect weather for a party.

That was the scene as Restonians of all ages headed to for the ninth annual Founder's Day organized by the They were there to celebrate Reston Founder Robert E. Simon's 98th birthday and Reston's 48th.

Master of ceremonies Chuck Veatch recalled the early days of Reston nearly 50 years ago as dignitaries such as Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va 11th), Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chair Sharon Bulova, Hunter Mill Supervisor Cathy Hudgins and State Sen. Janet Howell wished Reston and Simon well.

"Bob, Reston is your gift to us," Hudgins said. "We are here to say thank you - and Happy Birthday. Bob built a structure here that reminds us how we live as a community."

The crowd was entertained with musical numbers from Reston vocalist Beverly Cosham singing God Bless America; Theatre Arts Department (performing Tonight from its; and an ensemble from Park View High School in Loudoun County.
