Happy Birthday, Reston Patch!

Wow, have we grown in two years.

Happy Birthday to Reston Patch! We turn two years old on Aug. 12.

It seems like just yesterday I was visiting businesses and meeting residents and telling them there was going to be a website dedicated to just covering Reston.

Some of the reaction I received: Is Reston that newsy? And secretly, I wondered the same thing since we were a start up and the first Patch site in Virginia.

Two years later, we can emphatically say "yes, it is that newsy."

These days, the feedback I usually get is "I don't remember what we did before Patch."

Indeed, Reston is a newsy place. We've got the Metro coming to town and we're a major business hub here in Fairfax County. We have "good problems to have" such as propertyand high expectations for Fairfax County Public Schools.  We also have real-world issues like homelessness and the recession.

Reston also has its unique stories, like and

Before Patch, you may not have known about all the news right in your neighborhood. There have always been news sources, but Reston Patch has taken Reston into a new era - one of 24/7 news, social media and a user-friendly platform where you are not just reading, but participating in the discussion about what is important to you.

So, keep on reading! If you are not already subscribing to our free daily newsletter, you can do so by clicking here. Also, follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Tell your friends. Forward them stories you like.

I expect big things in our third year. Please continue to be a part of them.

See you around the neighborhood.

Great job, Karen! The Patch is indeed now a valuable information source. I particularly enjoy the community comments we can offer, and the lively debates that sometimes ensue.

Karen, in the short time I've been a Patch subscriber, you've informed me about a number of important events which were very rewarding. Without the work you do as a comprehensive, reliable local news source, we would have no access to a centralized online presence where we can keep abreast of a broad spectrum of issues and programs. I'm very grateful to you; happy birthday!!
