Celebrate Simon and Reston at Founder's Day

Saturday festivities include treasure hunt, music and cake as Reston turns 48 and Robert E Simon turns 98.

The community is invited to celebrate 98th Birthday and Reston's 48th birthday Saturday at the ninth annual

The fun begins at noon at Lake Anne Plaza. There will be musical performances, including South Lakes High School's Theater Arts Department performing a few numbers from its upcoming production of West Side Story.

At 1:30 p.m., the second annual Reston Founder's Day "Amazing Race" Treasure Hunt begins. This is a two-hour adventure to discover 10 of Reston's unique places and history. There will be prizes for all finishers and a drawing for an exciting grand prize.

Local dignitaries Rep. Gerry Connolly, Sen. Janet Howell,  Fairfax County Supervisor Sharon Bulova and Hunter Mill Supervisor Cathy Hudgins will be on hand to offer their best wishes to Simon and to Reston.

At Founder's Day, Restonians can also record on video their memories to be used for an upcoming documentary on Reston's 50th anniversary in 2014.  They can also send birthday greetings to Simon by signing his big birthday card and enjoy a piece of birthday cake from MallowDrama.
