Weekend Picks: Spring Festival and 5Ks

Plus, the Reston Farmers Market opens!

The first weekend in May is full of goings-on in Reston. Here's a few events to add to your weekend plan.

Saturday: Reston Association Spring Festival 1 to 5 p.m. at Walker Nature Education Center. For more information, visit Spring Festival. There will be live entertainment, crafts and nature activities at this free event. Also,  Reston Environmental Action (REACT) will collect old, used denim that will be sent to the organization Cotton, From Blue to Green where it will be recycled into environmentally-safe insulation for home-building organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. Saturday: Reston Farmers Market at Lake Anne Plaza opens for the season, 8 a.m.

Saturday: Good Dogz Pet Fiesta at Reston Town Center. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday: Courtney Schilling 5K, 8 a.m. This 5K race honors a teacher at Forest Edge who died from cancer. More info here.

Sunday: Hopecam 5k Run/Walk, 8 a.m. Starts and finishes at 1890 Preston White Dr. This run benefits area children with illness by offering them technology to connect with their classmates. For more information or to register, visit http://www.hopecam.org/.      

Sunday: Rescue Reston's Spring Into Action barbecue, 5 p.m. at Hidden Creek Country Club. This event, featuring dinner and a silent auction, will benefit Rescue Reston's quest to save Reston's open spaces.  For more information, go to rescuereston.org/events
