Reston Library - What's Up?

What is the Summer Reading Program?

The Reston Friends of the Library (Reston Friends) and Patch are a natural combo.

Both organizations are all about literacy and community. Starting with this post, Reston Friends will try to let you know what's going on at the library that might make your next visit more productive or fun!

School's almost out, which means the Summer Reading Program is almost in. Beginning June 21, kids of all ages (pre-school through high school) can sign up with the program on-line or in person. Complete your log and you'll earn a coupon book with lots of great deals in it.

The major cost of the summer reading program was underwritten by the Friends of George Mason Regional Library a few years ago. Each year, other Friends groups also kick in money to keep it going -- including the Reston Friends. The money for that kind of donation comes from the book sales at Reston library. So your recycling ends up being a productive part of your community!

There are also other great programs in the summer to promote reading, and they're not only just for kids. Are you reading Little Princes yet?  This is the All Fairfax Reads book this year -- another program Reston Friends helps underwrite.

But summer reading isn't all the Friends of the Library underwrites. Next time, we'll give you a glimpse at how the $60,000 Reston Friends has given the library this year breaks down to serve YOU.
