Holiday Mini Sale Eases Gift Giving

Serene, supportive, selective holiday shopping.

Sure, I could tell you about a "Great Sale" starting on Dec. 1 at Reston Regional Library. However, after weeks of the "Black Friday" and "Cyber Monday" assault by commercial media, I'm somewhat jaded about promises of something for nothing.

So let me tell you what the Mini Sale is.

* An opportunity for you to shop for excellent (gift giving) quality books and DVD's for people on your holiday list at a fraction of the price you'll pay in a store.

* A quiet atmosphere in which to examine, ponder, and choose your purchases including books for teens and children.

* An opportunity to support your community, your library, and literacy while showing your regard for others by selecting exactly the item that fits them -- not the one that's marked down or on super sale.

Now, what the Mini Sale is NOT:

* Not like our Huge Semi-Annual sales (September, April).  No dealers, just your neighbors and other community members knowing where the best deal in town is.

* Not an opportunity to clear a table so you can resell on e-Bay or some other outlet.

* Not a place where we accept credit cards.  Personal checks and cash are welcome.

* Not a place to use your scanner.  Really.  Leave it at home.

* No shipping, handling, or hidden costs.

Our sorters work all year culling and harvesting the best of the gift-quality books. Our standards are very high. The books are clean, tight and presentable (in other words, they will not say "to Aunt Marge with love" unless you buy it first and write it in there yourself). They range over all subjects. Sure, there are some books ABOUT the holidays we celebrate this time of year, but most are books that you might want to GIVE for a holiday or special event.

So stop by the Reston Regional Library Dec. 1 during regular library hours, and each day through the Dec. 4.  Of course, the best selection is usually at the front end of this sale, but who knows what is in the boxes that will be used to restock.

Note: In order that all may have a chance, there will be quantity limits on the first day of the sale.
