Children's, Teen & Educational (K-12) Used Book Sale

Children's Sale coming up at Reston Library.

Where can you get great literature for children at a fraction of the cover price?

Mark your calendars for Aug. 18-21. The Friends of Reston Regional Library will hold a book sale featuring Children’s, Teen and Educational (K-12) materials. Open between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, this is your chance to get great kids’ books at a nominal price.

For many years, patrons had asked us to split out the children’s books from our huge semi-annual sale in September and April. After much planning, we tried it for the first time in 2009. Our idea was to make this a smaller, friendlier, sale that focuses on our local community. In other words, we wanted to reward our loyal, local patrons with a sale primarily for you. You have stepped up as well and the support for these children’s sales has been amazing.

If you know moms, dads, teachers, day care providers, kids, etc., tell them about this sale.  As with our huge semi-annual sale in September, we restock this sale constantly AND we have some special treasures – rare, interesting, and collectible children’s books.

Because this is a smaller, friendlier sale, we offer the following guidelines:

1. NO SCANNING at this sale.

2. NO strollers or rolling carts in the sales room.

3. NO BACKPACKS of any kind. This includes BABY BACKPACKS (those where the baby is in a frame on your back). We have observed that when a person with a backpack on swings around, other patrons get hit.  You may keep your baby in a front sling of any fashion.

4. We reserve the right to limit BULK buying.

5. No hoarding books.

We want to thank the community for the way you support our sales by donating great books, volunteering at our many events, and purchasing used books at our sales!

One of our sister groups, Friends of Pohick Regional Library, is also holding a Children’s, Teen and Educational (K-12) Sale. Theirs is Friday, Aug. 26 - Saturday, Aug. 27.

See you on August 18 at 10!

Kelly, is the library still accepting books to be sold, or do you have all you need? What about the Sept. sale, when will you begin accepting donations?
Friends of the Reston Regional Library August 5, 2011 at 07:17 pm
We are accepting donations for the Children's Sale (up to 2 boxes per day) until 10 August.
We are accepting donations for the Semi-Annual Sale until early September, date to be determined. We generally accept books year-round, not just in advance of an event.

If the RA Board approves this self serving move by another RA Board member then the board membersRead More who do so should be voted out of their roles the next time they run for election.

Mr. Farrell, methinks thou protest too much. What ridicule and derision? It seems that you areRead More fanning the flames and rooting out some sort of scandal that, from my view, doesn't exist. As I understand it, there is a by-law provision that allows a homeowner to ask to be included in the RA. This wasn't something made up to accommodate one person. It was adopted for any single homeowner or cluster to opt in. There is no slippery slope. The rule is not being changed or adjusted for one person. The rule or by-law was in place prior to any of this hand wringing. Next, Ms. Rostant and all the other RA Board members are serving on a volunteer basis. Do any of you critics see some sort of gain to be had in this case? I find the witch hunt nature of some regarding this matter to be dubious if not mean spirited. Its easy to sit back in your easy chair and type away on your computer and deliver your edicts to resign. Get the facts. The lack of civility in some of these posts is repulsive.
