Walk in Claude Moore Park--Sterling

Come walk in
the wooded setting of Sterling's Claude Moore Park on Saturday, June 7, with
the Loudoun Walking Club for National Trails Day. Follow one or both of the
3-mile (5-kilometer) well-marked trails at your own pace. Start anytime between
8 am and 1 pm; just finish by 4 pm.

This walk is
free; everyone is welcome--even families with children in strollers and wagons.
See historic Lanesville Ordinary on the National Register of Historic Places

and the Frogshackle log cabin, explore the discovery room in the visitors
center and an interpretative tree trail, walk up a short hill to Mount Sterling
where the Union had a signal station and Confederate Colonel John Mosby's men
spied on Union supply convoys, and walk along the lone remaining stretch of Old
Vestal's Gap Road--an Indian path later used by British troops and as a
Colonial highway.

Only for
walkers enrolled in the IVV's volkssport achievement awards program there is a
$3 registration fee to be eligible for credit toward those awards. (For

information about volkssports go to www.ava.org.)

The club will
be grilling bratwurst and bratwurst, and selling them and soda at family
prices.
