Community Corner
NOVA-Reston Center to host GIS Day speakers
Northern Virginia Community College’s (NOVA) Reston Center will
host International Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day on Nov. 20. The event
is open to current NOVA students and anyone interested in learning more about
GIS applications.
NOVA-Reston Center recently hosted a
two-day workshop to identify the core duties and tasks of geospatial analysts
in the Northern Virginia region. GIS skills are in demand by government
agencies, non-profit groups and private companies.
NOVA offers an associate of science
degree program and a certificate program in GIS studies. Students in these
programs develop a framework of knowledge in spatial analysis, cartography,
information technology, database management and other disciplines supporting
GIS.
