The James Madison High School Jazz Band is a select ensemble of outstanding musicians made up of members from the nationally-recognized band program at James Madison High School--"The Pride of Vienna"--under the direction of Michael Hackbarth. Under his leadership, the band program was recognized for the second time by the John Philip Sousa Foundation and was a recipient of the prestigious Sudler Flag of Honor in 2012. They also performed the award-winning marching band production of "Unchained" in fall 2013. The Jazz Band played at the Blues Alley-sponsored BIG BAND JAM in April 2013 and return to Jammin' Java after a sold-out performance in June 2013. Select members of the Jazz Band also played at the AASA National Superintendent of the Year Gala in November 2013.
