Flag Raising Ceremony Honors All Veterans

 OAKTON, VA - Unity of Fairfax will hold a flag raising
ceremony on the front lawn of its Unity
of Fairfax, 2854 Hunter Mill Rd., Oakton, VAcampus at 2854 Hunter Mill Road in Oakton on Sunday, July 21 at 12:30 pm. "We especially
welcome the presence of members of the armed services, active and retired, who
wish to hold the high ground as we honor all veterans, including those that
have gone on to the last roll call, " said Colonel Peter L. Clifford, USA
(Ret), a Fairfax resident and Unity of Fairfax member.

The flagpole, a gift from Unity of Fairfax military veterans, was
championed by church member Captain Jeff W. Johnson, USN (Ret) of Reston. The
church members raising the flag are Specialist A3 William L. Parkin, USN
(1942-1946) World War II, and Electronics Technician Third Class Julius
Hankin, USN (1946-1947). Light refreshments will be served
afterwards. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

Special guests include Fairfax County Providence District
Supervisor Linda Q. Smyth, Commander Jacobo Flores of VFW Post 8469 and the
City of Fairfax Fire Department firefighters, who assisted with final steps of
the project and will bring Ladder Truck #403. Special invitees include the Gold
Star Mothers, Congressman Gerald E. 'Gerry' Connolly, the Fairfax
County Fire Chief and the Commander of American Legion Post 180.
