Doing the Right Thing in the 21st Century; Learning from the History of Ethics

An exploration of the major approaches to ethics, guides for moral conduct, both in their religious and secular contexts. Don Yacoe will explore how the history of differing moral codes might suggest an appropriate morality for the present. The talk will argue that in the 21st century, with the fate of the planet at stake, there is a pressing need for new moral guidelines that build on traditional ethics.

Don Yacoe has had a varied career as an academic, journalist and government official focusing on education, writing literacy and finance/health care public policy. Don currently has a number of writing projects with a focus on narrative roots and context for health care public policy, and how storytelling can help steer health care reform and, more generally, moral choices.

This talk is part of the Sunday Forum: Science, Reason, and Religion at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax.  The forum will be in the Chapel of the Program Building.  All are welcome.
