Art Mirrors Culture: Reston Multicultural Festival Intergenerational Exhibit (3D Gallery)

During this three-month exhibit, area artists are exhibiting three-dimensional pieces in a variety of media, including ceramics, sculpture, mosaics, stained glass and wood work, to celebrate the many facets of culture.
In response to the question “How does art mirror culture in your work?” each 3D artist wrote a few words that will be placed in the glass cases along with their artwork. One of these is artist, Guy Zoller, whose Ganesh was created after a visit to a friend’s home in Geneva, Switzerland. After touring her Indian traditional dance studio, he noticed a large collection of religious statues in various parts of her home. “There were sitting figures, dancing figures, reclining figures, and figures playing instruments. I admired these imaginative and playful images so much that my friend later sent one as a gift.” His sculpture “Ganesh” is modeled on the pose of that statue. “I have tried to honor this tradition by approaching the work with respect and with the hope that my Indian friends, especially, appreciate my effort.” Visit any time RCC Lake Anne is open from September 4 through November 21.
