New Board of Directors Elected for Reston Association

The required 10 percent quorum was successfully reached for all four races – Apartment Owners', two At-Large seats, and Hunters Woods/Dogwood seat.

The Elections Committee received the results of the 2014 Board of Directors Election, which were tabulated by Reston Association’s counting agent, Intelliscan. The results were announced during Tuesday’s Annual Members’ Meeting.

The required 10 percent quorum was successfully reached for all four races – Apartment Owners’, two At-Large seats, and Hunters Woods/Dogwood seat.

Reston’s governing documents require that an annual election by its voting members be conducted as a referendum. All candidates for the Board of Directors contested or not, are elected by a plurality of the votes cast, and all elections require a minimum quorum of 10%.

The races for the two at-large seats were contested. Newcomer Lucinda Shannon ran unopposed for the Hunters Woods/Dogwood District seat. The Apartment Owners’ seat was also decided in a separate election. Click here to download results from the Apartment Owners' race.

Ellen Graves, who most recently served on the board as an appointed member in the Hunters Woods/Dogwood district, was elected by the apartment owners to serve as their representative.

New to the board are Rachel Muir and Jeff Thomas. Muir was elected to serve the one-year at-large seat and Thomas will serve for three years in an at-large seat.

In an effort to both reduce the financial impact of an election, and to align with Reston’s goals to be environmentally sustainable, approximately 54 percent of voters cast their ballots online this year. Voters were also asked to signify their interest in an online-only option to vote in future elections. Click here to view comparisons of online and paper ballots, and for vote totals.

A new board president, vice president, treasurer and secretary will be appointed on Wednesday, April 9 at a 6 p.m. meeting of the new board at Reston Association headquarters, 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive.

The members of Reston Association’s Board of Directors are now:

  2. Tim Cohn, North Point District Director
  3. Lucinda Shannon, Hunters Woods/Dogwood District Director
  4. Richard Chew, South Lakes District Director
