Overnight I-66 Closings to Affect Area

Metrorail construction to close lanes for five weeks.

I-66 westbound at the Dulles Connector Road (Route 267) will be closed overnight starting on or about Wednesday, Aug. 25 for about five weeks because of Dulles Metrorail Project construction, the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project announced.

The closures will allow Dulles Rail construction crews to build large concrete structures that will straddle over the road between piers, which will support bridges and structures carrying the new rail line near where it will merge into Metro's existing Orange Line.

Traffic will not be allowed to flow under this construction work for safety reasons.

The closings will happen during overnight hours from midnight to 5 a.m. All lanes will be reopened by the morning rush.

When these lanes close, drivers bound for destinations along I-66 west of Arlington will be affected.

Through traffic will be detoured on to the Dulles Connector Road westbound, then on to Route 123 south toward Tysons Corner, to a right turn on to the ramp to the Capital Beltway south toward Richmond. Drivers can then rejoin I-66 from the Beltway.

Drivers bound for destinations inside the Capital Beltway may find alternate routes via other local westbound roads by exiting I-66 prior to the I-66/Dulles Connector Road split.  For example, traffic bound for the Falls Church City/Broad Street and Idylwood areas can exit before the detour and use Route 29/Washington Street to connect with Broad Street (Route 7 west).
