McDonnell Signs Autism Bill

Mandate gives coverage to families.

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell on Friday signed bill that makes Virginia the 26th state to mandate some coverage for families.

Insurers will now be required to offer coverage for families with children aged 2 to 6. The state's law will cap annual coverage costs at $35,000. It would not apply to self-insured companies, exempts businesses with 50 or fewer employees and cover state employees.

State Sen. Janet Howell (D-Reston) was a co-sponsor of the original bill. The bill underwent several changes before being signed by McDonnell.
