Lake Fairfax Suffers Storm Damage

Lake Fairfax Park in Reston was one of several Fairfax County Park Authority locations that suffered damage from Thursday's storms.

As of Friday at 5 p.m., the Lake Fairfax Marina was still almost completely underwater, said Parks spokeswoman Judy Pedersen.

Other damage in the park was to picnic areas and roads, she said.

The roads were repaired on Friday and are now passable to people can get in and out of the athletic field areas and the campground.

Campers were in the park at the time of the storm, which dumped more than six inches of rain on the area in a few hours. There were no injuries," Pedersen said.

"Systemwide, we have had considerable issues from the storm," said Pedersen. At Bryant Avenue Park, a backstop was moved on top of a dugout. At Lake Accotink, the water moved boulders. It was hit or miss from one park to another, but the ones that were hit were hit hard."

The marina remains closed. The grass fields will be closed Saturday, but the turf fields will be open. In general, Fairfax County Parks and Recreation Centers will be open on Saturday, but areas and certain facilities may be closed for repairs.
