Five File for Vacant Reston Association Director Spot

Board will appoint a replacement to fill out remaining 10 months of Hunters Woods/Dogwood term.

The Reston Association Board of Directors will vote later this week on a replacement for Cheryl Beamer, the Hunters Woods/Dogwood director who resigned in May.

Beamer had nearly a year left on her second three-year term. She cited personal reasons for her departure.

Five residents have filed with RA as candidates:

  • John V. Berry, an attorney and small business owner
  • Ellen A. Graves, longtime Reston resident who is a former staffer for Hunter Mill Supervisor Cathy Hudgins and who serves in a volunteer capacity for many Reston organizations.
  • Tom Vis, former RA at-large representative who lost his bid for re-election in 2012.
  • Victor Van Rees, chairman of the RA Covenants Committee. Van Rees ran against Beamer for the Hunters Woods/Dogwood spot in 2011.
  • Adam Parnes, who serves as RA's appointee to the Southgate Community Center Advisory Council.
The board will make its decision at its regular monthly meeting on Thursday.
