Giving Circle of HOPE Impact 2014

Smart, compassionate, and local: how your neighbors have "Fun with a Purpose."

You may have read about the Giving Circle of HOPE (Giving Circle or GCH) and its goal for 2014 here in the Patch last Friday.

I could tell you about us using the current “in” words that go with philanthropic giving: grassroots philanthropy, social investment, social enterprise, strategic giving, and others.

But here is the fact: the Giving Circle is comprised of ordinary people who want our hard earned money to be used in ways that matter to us. Since we are going to take time out of our busy schedules in service to our community, we want to do it in ways that not only actually help, but in ways that touch our heart. We give as a group, we learn, we have fun and make new friends, and we connect personally with those we serve.

Since 2004 the Giving Circle has been allowing us to make a difference here, where we live, in a smart and compassionate way.

Every week, leading up to our tenth anniversary, I will give you stories of the people we’ve met, interspersed with facts like “during the last nine years the members of the GCH gave $665,000 in grants to small, local organizations like Computer CORE, Grace Ministries, Kids R First, FISH, and others: forty-plus organizations in all with diverse missions and clients, all of them helping our neighbors in Northern Virginia.”
