Lake Anne Land Swap Debate – Parking Options?

I will be at tonight’s hearing to find out if all options for parking have been completely explored.   I’m excited about the Lake Anne revitalization, but we must be very conscious of the precedent being set.  I want to be sure that we have completely gone to the mat on this.

Just 3 weeks ago the Reston Association joined with the Reston Citizens Association and the Alliance of Reston Clusters and Homeowners to produce a joint statement of principles which includes:

Environmental Sustainability:   Consistent with Reston’s history of forward thinking on environmental stewardship and sustainability, we believe that future development in Reston should meet the highest feasible environmental standards, ranging from the protection or restoration of natural amenities, to the use of the best environmental practices in development design and materials.

The 2013 edition of the Fairfax County Comprehensive Plan, amended through 4/9/2013, page 162 regarding Land Unit C (this is the area in question) under the section Redevelopment Option “Tree preservation and/or tree cover restoration should be a key condition of redevelopment in this Land Unit . . . The existing tree canopy in this Land Unit should be preserved to the greatest extent possible.”

Please look at the attached two photos of the stand of trees on this acre as they are seen from the Plaza.  The color photo is recent and the black and white is from 1964.  I’m headed over now to talk with a few shop owners.  I may be back with a few more photos.
