South Lakes Breaks Ground on Turf Fields

School and community partners kick off project that will add two synthetic turf playing fields to the Reston schools.

South Lakes High School broke ground on two synthetic turf fields on Thursday, and community partners expect the project will be completed for fall sports at the school.

The project - which will install turf at the school's stadium field as well as on a practice field - has been a several-year undertaking, as the school applied for a Fairfax County grant and also amassed money from the community partners.

Among the partners for the project, which will cost $1.4-1.8 million: Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services (which provided a $175,000 grant); Fairfax County Park Authority ($1.1 million in bond money); Reston Association; Reston Youth Association (football); South Lakes Athletic Boosters; Reston Community Center; South Lakes Band Boosters; and Reston Soccer.
