Small Business Saturday is on Nov. 24 this year, two days after Thanksgiving and one day aftert the chain store bargain blitz known as Black Friday. It is a day for everyone to support the small businesses that their community thrives on.
American Express founded Small Business Saturday in 2010 to help small businesses get exposure during the holiday season, when they might be otherwise overlooked. With retailers buzzing around the holidays, it is important to support local small businesses that rely on their neighbors in order to continue prospering and building the local economy in Ashburn.
Last year, 100 million people nationwide participated in Small Business Saturday by shopping at locally owned stores to help boost the economy and their communities.
Both large and small retailers benefit the community through taxes and the spending their employees do elsewhere. However, small businesses are more likely to be locally owned, which keeps more of the benefit in the community. Shoppers also help their neighbors by shopping at their stores.
Many Reston businesses are participating in Small Business Saturday. Among them: The Bike Lane and Edibles Incredible Desserts. To see the full list of businesses participating, click here.
The retailers at home to all small businesses, is also a popular spot to support local businesses such as Lake Anne Florist and Virginia Wine Gourmet and Baby Blossom.

A huge percentage of the money spent in these stores stays in Reston, unlike money spent in the corporate chain establishments. See you Saturday at Lake Anne and the several other Reston small business locations!
