Pedicab Lets You Tour Reston With Pedal Power

New pedicab company is based at Lake Anne Plaza.

There is a new method of transportation for Restonians - a pedicab is now running at Lake Anne Plaza.

A pedicab is an environmentally friendly bicycle-powered rickshaw. They are popular in cities and in tourist areas, such as a beach boardwalk.

Reston resident Paul Walsh recently opened up his new business - Ella's pedicab - and is offering rides in and around Lake Anne. Ella stands for "Enjoying Life at Lake Anne."

"I have wanted one here for years," says Walsh, 53. "Now that the Metro is coming in, there might be potential for this form oif transportation."

Walsh was out at Saturday's Freezin' for a Reason Virginia Polar Dip showing off his new pedal powered vehicle. He says he will regularly be out on the plaza offering 10-minute rides for $3 a person ($5 a duo).

He will take someone as far as Reston Town Center or other Reston destinations. Fares are roughly a dollar per minute above the base price. Rides are $5 more after dark.

He is also available for special events for $75 an hour.

Want to take a ride? Call Walsh at 703-951-ELLA.

Great idea for a local business! Hopefully, Mr. Walsh will be able to expand the business and provide a few local jobs. My first introduction to the pedicab was in Taiwan in the 1960's. It was a great form of transportation. Will we see pedicabs on the Reston paths one of these days?

Thank you, Diane. I certainly hope you'll see pedicabs traveling all over Reston. Pedicabs in most US cities & vacation sites serve tourists. The pedicab service in Reston around Lake Anne is different. This pedicab is dedicated to serving the residents a residential community surrounding a village center. People should think of the pedicab as another means of inexpensive and fun transportation to / from Lake Anne Plaza and Town Center. Add a little pizzazz to your lunch or dinner date! Enjoy Life @ Lake Anne. Please visit the website for more information http://restonlakeanne.com/ella-pedicab/about-ellas-pedicab/

Paul and the ELLA Pedicab are a charming addition to the Lake Anne Village setting. After dinner at any one of four quality restaurants on the Plaza, take your date by Paul's Pedicab to see the views along the water's edge to the quaint Van Gogh Bridge and possibly on to the "beach" and marina by the inlet in Waterview Cluster. A romantic 5 minute ride, each way. Lovely now and better each passing afternoon or evening!
