Northpoint Village Blockbuster Closing March 13

Everything is on sale as Reston's last video store is set to shut its doors.

Want to add to your DVD collection? The next few weeks will be a good opportunity to do so. Northpoint Village Center's Blockbuster video store is holding a huge sale as it prepares to shut its doors for good on March 13.

Blockbuster's closing leaves Reston without a video store. Hollywood Video at Hunters Woods Plaza closed in 2009. The Blockbuster at South Lakes Village Center closed several years ago.

It is a sign of the times. With competition from online and on-demand movies, Netflix and grocery-store Redbox machines, movie rental locations seem to be going the way of the Betamax.

Blockbuster said in late 2009 it would clsoe  between 810 and 960 locations by the end of 2010 -  more than one-fifth of its US stores.

Meanwhile, everything at the Northpoint store is on drastic sale - DVDs, game, even candy. Most are about 20-40 percent off, depending on the item, but prices will continue to be slashed until everything is sold.
