New Reston Staples Making Donation to Fairfax Library Foundation

Grand opening and "ribbon shredding" at the store on Friday.

Staples, which opened last week at Plaza America in Reston, will celebrate the opening by making a $1,500 donation to the Fairfax Library Foundation.

There will be a small ceremony at the store on Friday, Nov. 18 at 11:30 a.m.

Staples General Manager Robert Smolinski will be joined by Hunter Mill District Supervisor Cathy Hudgins and representatives from Fairfax Library Foundation in a unique ribbon-shredding ceremony. Representatives from the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce will also attend.

The donation from Staples Foundation will support literacy programs for local youth.  The Fairfax Library Foundation supports the Fairfax County Public Library including its 23 branches by providing programming that supports school readiness through childhood literacy initiatives.

“Staples is committed to building a better community in Reston by supporting organizations that help local youth succeed,”  Smolinski said in a statement. “Through this contribution, Staples is helping the Fairfax Library Foundation enrich and expand literacy opportunities for members of the Fairfax County community.”

Susan Harman, executive director of the Fairfax Library Foundation, says she looks forward to having Staples as a community partner.

“Staples is serving the Reston area not only as a valuable economic resource, but also as a community partner that supports local organizations,” she said.   “We greatly appreciate this donation which will help provide the resources needed to offer literacy programs to local youth.”
