New Athleta Store Gets a Workout

new Athleta store was the place to be Tuesday night as local athletes and fans of the women's activewear store jammed the Market Street location for a grand opening party.

Athleta, owned by Gap Inc., is a popular catalogue selling well-designed gear for yoga, cycling, running, swimming and just plain looking casual. Athleta opened its first Washington-area brick-and-mortar store in Georgetown last year. The Reston store is its first Virginia location, though another will open at Tysons Corner in three weeks.

At Tuesday's sneak peek of the store, women lined up down the block to get through the doors. Inside, the line to try on clothes was more than 30 people deep at one point. Visitors sipped white wine and checked out sports bras, sundresses and organic cotton leggings.

Athleta will make a donation to Girls on the Run of Northern Virginia in honor of the grand opening.

"I am really excited," said Hillary Facchina of Great Falls as she waited for a dressing room. She says she likes tennis, yoga and aerobics and has been an Athleta shopper for a while. "It is much nicer to be able to try things on."

Athleta, located at 11900 Market St.,  opens to the public Wednesday at 10 a.m. The store will offer special events at the store such as free fitness classes (check in store for exact schedule).

Athleta will also host Fitness Fun Days June 19-21. Fitness Fun Days feature free exercise classes through out the day including Hip Hop, Belly Dancing, Zumba, Kids Yoga and Sports Yoga. Those 45-minute classes will be held at the Reston Town Center Pavilion.
