Footsteps Expanding Into Triathlon Gear

Longtime running store not just for runners anymore.

Reston running enthusiasts have long shopped at the running gear store at South Lakes Shopping Center, for years. In fact, the store is one of the longest tenants at the plaza and a center of action for running groups, marathoners and joggers.

The business is now expanding to keep up with the demands of triathletes, said Footsteps owner Paul Zink. The store is now carrying a range of swimsuits, goggles, kickboards and wetsuits, along wtih the usual running shoes and tights.

Eventually Footsteps will be branching out into bike repair and other gear, says Zink.

"No one was really catering to the triathlon community," says Zink. "The bike stores will carry more of the hardware- the bikes- but we'll have the software such as shoes, gear, and wetsuits."

Zink said he thought about changing the name to reflect the new selection, but then decided against it.
