There is money to be made in moviemaking - both for the filmmakers and the locations.
So how to attract more films and filmmakers to our region? One is being film friendly, says Brad Russell, the founder of the Washington West Film Festival, which opens Oct. 23 in Reston and nearby locations.
Russell, writing in the Huffington Post, says an important way to make the region "attractive is to cultivate an appreciation for film through film festivals -- which in turn fuel the film economic engine."
The festival will be the venue for 41 screenings of new independent and Hollywood films for 2,000 filmgoers.
