Scythian's Exuberant Energy Comes To Frying Pan Farm Park
World music band is part of Hunter Mill Night Melodies music series
The crowd formed early at Frying Pan Farm Park in Herndon Thursday night, armed with blankets and lawn chairs. They staked out prime viewing spots, carefully leaving plenty of room in front of the front of the stage.
Scythian took the stage for Hunter Mill Night Melodies this week and when they start playing, people always want to dance.
The four performers who make up Scythian are area locals who have been on the road promoting their new album, American Shanty. The first thing they said after their opening number is, “We missed you!”
Scythian calls itself “sons of immigrants” who play world music. While that is true, they also bring their own unique energy and modern musicianship to familiar melodies.

Rollicking between Irish jigs and Lousiana Zydeco and changing gears with a Bulgarian love song/lament, Scythian played long past the hour they were expected to perform. The sun was setting, but their energetic music continued and the crowd was still on their feet, dancing.
