Reston's 'Les Misérables' Adds Additional Shows, Youth Encore Concert

Additional shows added to run, youth encore concert set for Jan. 26.

The Reston Community Players have extended their production of "Les Misérables" until Feb. 15, adding another four shows to their original schedule.

Additional shows are: Thursday, Feb. 13 at 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The show featured a sold-out opening weekend and has garnered numerous positive reviews, on Reston Patch and on DC Metro Theatre Arts, who called the production "mesmerizing."

“Our first weekend sold-out and audiences were on their feet before the finale ended at every performance,” said producer Richard E. Schneider. “Because of the immense interest, we have added one extra week of performances.”

In addition to the extra shows, the cast and crew will offer a treat to audience members attending the Sunday, Jan. 26 matinee performance at 2 p.m.

Immediately following the matinee, a very special 50th Anniversary Cast, comprised of 20 talented area youth, ages 7-15, will perform an encore concert with popular selections from the show.

"We wanted to have some fun with the idea of casting the 50th Anniversary production of Les Miserables," Schneider said. "Les Miserables recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with a concert production in London. We thought we would offer our audiences a treat by introducing some of our young candidates for a 50th anniversary concert."

“It is truly exciting to hear the talent of these young people,” said Encore Director Dana Van Slyke. “They are just as passionate about the music of "Les Misérables" as the adults, and that will surely be seen and heard in their encore performance on January 26. It is exciting to know that there is such talent and enthusiasm in these young up and coming performers.”

Shows will be: Jan. 24, 25, 26, 30, and 31, and Feb. 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, and 15.

Jan. 26 and Feb. 9 are 2 p.m. matinee performances and Feb. 1, 8, and 15 feature performances at both 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

All Reston Players mainstage productions are performed at CenterStage at the Reston Community Center, 2310 Colts Neck Road, Reston, VA. CenterStage is handicap accessible and offers listening devices for the hearing impaired.

Tickets can be purchased through www.restonplayers.org or by calling the CenterStage box office at 703-476-4500 x 3.
