RCP's 'Next to Normal' Opens Friday

Pulitzer Prize musical takes on family coping with mental illness.

Reston Community Players will debut its production of Next to Normal  - a Pulitzer Prize-winning musical about a family living with mental illness - this weekend.

Next to Normal won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and was nominated for 11 Tony Awards. The Broadway production closed in January 2011.

The play explores how a suburban household copes with crisis and shows how far two parents will go to keep themselves sane and their family’s world intact.

RCP says the show is for mature audiences as it contains adult language and situations.

This show is directed by Andrew JM Regiec (who directed RCP productions of Curtains; Urinetown; Forbidden Broadway; August:Osage County) with musical direction by Elisa Rosman (Urinetown; I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change; I Love You Because) .

The cast includes, three RCP veterans: Jolene Vettese (Curtains; I Love You Because), Harv Lester (I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change) and Terry Barr (Spelling Bee; I Love You Because).

Showtimes are at 8 p.m on March 1, 2, 8, 9, 10 (2:30 p.m. matinee), 15, 16, 17 (2:30 p.m. matinee), and 22 and 23.

The March 10 matinee will also feature a special talk back with cast members and a psychologist, who will answer questions about living with mental illness.
