Off to College? Author Tells It Like It Is
The Dandelion Patch hosts Christie Garton for wine, cupcakes and a book signing
Christie Garton wants every young woman leaving for college to know the basics of life beyond their parents' house.
That's why Garton, founder, founder of UniversityChic, wrote a guidebook for that demographic - U Chic: The College Girl's Guide to Everything.
Garton visited The Dandelion Patch at Reston Town Center recently to discuss tips for college life.

"I realized there are millions of women going to school and no resources for them," Garton said. "There are so many things young women need to be aware of."
The book was inspired by young women from all over the country blogging on the UChic to help women stay up-to-date with what is matters most to them while they are in college.

UChic is open to anyone who wants to blog and give advice to other young women about going to college. Garton took a few of the topics that came up most frequently while speaking with young women, such as homesickness, deciding on a major, studying, love, parties, friends and safety, to highlight in the book.
A revised version of U Chic: The College Girl's Guide to Everything – which has already sold about 30,000 copies – will come out in the spring of 2011.
Garton went to law school at the University of Pennsylvania. She is also a philanthropic writer for USA Today.
