Dark Comedy on CenterStage

Reston Community Players present the Pulitzer Prize-winning 'August: Osage County.'

Reston Community Players'  production  of August: Osage County, a Pulitzer Prize-winning play with darkly comic, adult themes, continues Friday at theCenterStage.

“This has a dark side to it,” says Andrew JM Regiec, director of the play. “But it also has a lot of humor. The dialogue is so frank, and witty.”

August: Osage County tells the story of Beverly Weston, a once-famous poet who is now battling addiction to alcohol and pills. Seen only in the beginning of the play, he disappears, leaving his highly dysfunctional family to assume he is dead. (He is.) They gather at his home to take care of the funeral, and each one melts down in his or her own way.

Regiec says the play is notable for the range of ages in the cast… the youngest person depicted in the play is 14 (played in the RCP production by a young adult) and the oldest is close to 70.

August: Osage County continues Friday, May 4 and Saturday, May 5 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 6 at 2:30 p.m.  (This day also features a talk back with the cast and crew.)
