Weekend Planner - Reston

Last August weekend has events for all, including dogs. But double check to see if Irene will put a damper on the schedule.

Here are your best bets for this weekend. With the threat of Hurricane Irene bearing down, it is best to double check with the event site or sponsors to see if your event is still taking place.

Where/When? on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Why Go? If your dog loves to swim, this party is for him (or her).  The Herndon Community Center pool is closing for maintenance, but before all the water is drained, they are going to neutralize the chlorine and invite man’s best friend in for a little pool time.

Pricing? $5 per pup (Portion of the proceeds will be given to the department's scholarship fund and the Fairfax Humane Society.)  Please read the guidelines and make a reservation with the Herndon Community Center.

 

Where/When? on Saturday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m.

Why Go? Come ready to dance and become the newest fans of at the final concert of the “On the Town” season! There are not enough adjectives to describe this high-energy, highly-entertaining band of immigrant brothers.

Where/When? Fred Crabtree Park (2791 Fox Mill Road) on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 7 a.m.

Why Go? A beautiful park, tucked away near Crossfields School, is the perfect birding spot. The birding will be led by Bill Brown. Look for the magic door in the forest. This event is cosponsored by the Reston Association, The Audubon Society of Northern Virgnia and store.

Pricing? Free

Where/When? I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Rd. Fairfax) on Sunday, Aug. 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go? Electronics broken and gathering dust?  If you didn’t know what to do with them – and want to do the right thing – bring them to the Electronics Recycling event at the I-66 Transfer station.

Pricing? Free

 

Hot August Night

Where/When? on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m.

Why Go? Reston’s own Luke Brindley and a host of other songwriters pay tribute to Neil Diamond in this show at Jammin Java.
