Weekend Pick - Oktoberfest Reston

Three days of music, food, carnival and fun.

will feel like a village in Germany this weekend, with food, music, carnival rides and, yes, beer at the Fifth Annual Oktoberbest Reston.

Presented by the , Oktoberfest will take place on Friday Oct. 7 ( 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.), Saturday, Oct. 8 ( 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.) and Sunday, Oct. 9 (12 p.m. to 8 p.m.) .

Music is a big part of the lineup. Friday night kicks off with The Continentals ( 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.), who are out to prove that polkas are cool.  Love Seed Mama Jump  (also known as "The Official Rock Band of the Washington Redskins")  takes the stage with their high energy pop-rock show on Saturday from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.  On Sunday night (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.), U2 cover band 2U takes the stage.

The LOW'n'BROWS, Kings Park German Band and the Alpine Dancers will provide traditional Oktoberfest entertainment all weekend.

Also on tap: beer and wine, of course, as well as a variety of foods from vendors and area restaurants.

The parking lot at the corner of Reston Parkway and New Dominion Parkway will become Carnival, with games and rides for all ages.

Individual Oktoberfest food and beverage tickets may be purchased for $1 each or $20 for 24. Each item ranges from one to five tickets. Oktoberfest tickets will be sold at the event at ticket booths throughout the festival. Tickets can be purchased at the event or at the Chamber office, located at 1763 Fountain Drive, Reston.

Carnival Tickets are $1 per ticket or $20 for 24 tickets. (Each rides range take 3-5 tickets.) Carnival Tickets will be sold at the Carnival.  Advanced ALL YOU CAN RIDE wristbands are on sale for $20 at the Chamber Office.  Wrist bands are good for Saturday, Oct. 8 and can be used from 11:00pm-3:00pm. Wristbands will sell for $25 at the Carnival on Friday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 8.

Also on Saturday, the Anthem Great Pumpkin 5K will begin at 8:30 a.m.  Organizers estimate 4,000 runners are expected to participate in the third annual race, which will benefit the

In addition to the 5k road race, families are encouraged to bring their children out to participate in the Kids Pumpkin Dash and Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Children can wear their best Halloween costume for the dash, and participate in a costume contest.
