It's still a bit chilly out there this week in Northern Virginia, after the cold front hit, but soon school will be out and the kids will want to hit the pool. They can do that, plus hitch a ride this summer at Lake Fairfax Park. Combine a trip to the Water Mine with a ride on Engine #62 of ResOURces Railroad.
The Fairfax County Park Authority’s trackless train will be running at Lake Fairfax Park, 1400 Lake Fairfax Dr. in Reston, on the second weekend of June, July and August. It will also make special runs at the park May 31, June 1, and July 4. Rides will be $3 per person. Engine 62 is used by the Park Authority’s Resource Management Division to interpret county parks and resources during fun rides through parks.
It’s a perfect complement to a picnic or a day at the pool. The Water Mine opens Saturday, May 24, one week before the train makes its seasonal debut at the park.
Season passes for the Water Mine are on sale now. Based on once-a-week trips to the water park, you’ll save more than 60 percent with a pass compared to daily admission prices. Season passes also mean quicker entry to the pool, unlimited rides on the carousel and lake tour boat, exclusive Wednesday evening swims, and a discounted rate for daily guest passes.
The Water Mine also has weekday group rates.
Details about the Water Mine and prices are on the Fairfax County Park Authority website.
After a winter of dodging snowflakes indoors, hit the pool and hitch a ride to double your outdoor fun at Lake Fairfax Park this summer.
