Turning Sneakers Into Sports Courts

Pair of SLHS students gathering your old shoes for Nike's Reuse-A-Shoe Program.

Have old athletic shoes around the house? Bring them in to South Lakes High School through Friday and help recycle them into athletic facilities.

As part of their International Baccalaureate Middle Years program project, SLHS sophomores Virginia Bulger and Megan Greatorex have organized the drive for Nike's Reuse-A-Shoe program. The girls will also use the project to compete in the Community Service Event at the State DECA competition in March.

The drive, which runs through Friday, collects old and used athletic shoes  - even single shoes - to turn into materials to build tracks and sport courts for schools in need across the country.

The girls' goal is to collect 500 pairs of shoes. Donations can be dropped off at South Lakes High School's main office. Any questions? email lnikereuseashoe6@gmail.com
