UPDATE: Reston Forecast Upgraded to Winter Storm Warning For Tuesday, Jan. 21

'100 percent' chance of snow for Tuesday, forecasters say.

Update, 6:21 a.m., Jan. 21. 

Reston's forecast has been updated to "Temperature falling to around 17 by 5pm. Northeast wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph... Total daytime snow accumulation of 5 to 9 inches possible," according to the National Weather Service. 
In addition, Reston will be under a Wind Chill Advisory from 6 p.m. to noon Wednesday, Jan. 22, with temperatures expected to dip as low as 16 degrees, with a wind chill of up to -14 degrees.

The National Weather Service has upgraded Reston's forecast to a Winter Storm Warning for Tuesday, Jan. 21, effective from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

They are also saying snowfall could be as much as seven inches.

A winter storm watch is in effect for Reston and surrounding areas starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday Jan. 21 and continuing until 11 p.m., according to National Weather Service reports. 

According to NWS, Tuesday's forecast is "snow, mainly after 8 a.m. Temperature falling to around 18 by 2 p.m.. Northeast wind 9 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible."

Some computer weather models predict up to 5 inches of snow for the area with temperatures dipping into the teens and winds at 10 to 15 miles per hour and gusts up to 25 miles per hour. 

Tuesday night's forecast isn't much better, with a "low around 4. Wind chill values as low as -12. Northwest wind 16 to 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent."

Blowing snow could reduce visibility, making driving conditions challenging for motorists.  

The forecasted high for the area Tuesday is 28 degrees with a low of 11 degrees.
