Stuff Restonians Say

The speech snippets that make up Reston.

Surely by now you have seen the viral videos making the rounds. There is "[Stuff] Yogis Say" and "[Stuff] Jewish Mothers Say" and "[Stuff] New Yorkers Say," to name a few.

Before we break out our video camera and eavesdrop from Hunters Woods to Northpoint, we thought we would make up a printed list of our own. Feel free to add your own snippets in the comments below the story. We'll give a Starbucks card to the response that is so totally Reston.

\\Standing in RTC I am so sick of all of these chains. I wish there was some more local establishments in Reston. \\Standing at Lake Anne God, I wish the Apple store was closer. I need a charger for my phone.
Uncle Smartypants January 24, 2012 at 08:27 PM
The <insert name> supermarket at Tall Oaks didn't fail because it's a bad location, they failed because they didn't carry the products their customers wanted to buy.
JoAnne Norton January 24, 2012 at 09:19 PM
Reston Interfaith really helps people get back on their feet.
JoAnne Norton January 24, 2012 at 09:20 PM
Reston always been diverse, from way back.

Who wants to go for a walk around the lake?
Dianne Rose January 25, 2012 at 12:42 AM
Time for a ride on the party barge!
Scott January 25, 2012 at 01:19 AM

Live, work, play....
Ann Schindler January 25, 2012 at 02:06 AM
There are graveyards AND billboards in your town? Weird.
Lisa W. January 25, 2012 at 08:33 AM
Does my cluster or RA take care of that?
JAK January 25, 2012 at 10:48 AM
It's the size of a city, but it's not one, nor is it a town, but rather it's a community.

I love the "I saw it on Reston Patch" because I say that all the time - my husband thinks I'm obsessed with Patch ;-) What would Robert E Simon do?
Charlotte Geary January 25, 2012 at 02:55 PM
This cracked me up!
novatom January 25, 2012 at 02:59 PM
Happiness is living within walking distance of Ledos.
Uncle Smartypants January 25, 2012 at 04:09 PM
With all due respect, Mr. Butts, I've eaten at Ledo and I'm pretty sure you're the only one who has ever said that.
Reston Mom January 25, 2012 at 04:58 PM
"We just don't DO that in Reston." "Where are you from originally?" "Let's meet at the fountain." "I'll swing by the shelter to drop that off that donation after I get the library books I have on hold." "Is that off Sunrise Valley or Sunset Hills?"
Justine van Engen January 25, 2012 at 05:48 PM
Is it gluten-free? No, we're registered for both kids' triathlons. Umm, it's pronounced "wheel- e." Oh yeah? Well, ant colonies do NOT get their own license plates!
Karen Goff January 25, 2012 at 09:17 PM
I will announce winners tomorrow morning. Have some more thoughts? Contest is open until 7 a.m. Thursday.
Leslie Perales Loges January 25, 2012 at 09:25 PM
"Happy hour on Friday. We're going to _______." (McCormick's, Il Fornaio, Jacksons, etc.) "I live three blocks from one!" (Chipotle, Apple Store, Uncle Julio's, Anthropologie, Sephora, Trader Joe's, etc.) "Oh, we've got one of those here. It's pretty close. I walk there." "Let's go grab some yogurt!"
Chris Purcell January 25, 2012 at 09:32 PM
Where can I lock up my bike? How's the Road Diet going?
Restonian January 25, 2012 at 09:47 PM
Don't worry -- I'll bet the DRB will let that window treatment slide.
Marion Myers January 25, 2012 at 10:28 PM
So, how long have YOU lived in Reston?
Arja Sahramaa January 25, 2012 at 11:11 PM
... Yes, of course you can launch your boat at Lake Anne...
Mike Collins January 26, 2012 at 02:15 AM
Wait, RTC isn't part of RA? Does RCA run RCC or the other way around? What the heck is special tax district 5? Can you swim in the lakes? Is that DRB approved? We love the farmers' market. They should put a ________________ at Lake Anne
Amanda Andere January 26, 2012 at 02:32 AM
I mean who else can introduce their founder at every event. Are you going to Best of Reston? We are volunteering at the Shelter this week, food pantry next week, wait your don't know Reston Interfaith is THE organization helping our neighbors in need. Yes we have people in need in Reston. Of course we have a shelter, we also have affordable housing that is how we roll. Reston is the epitome of diversity.
JoAnne Norton January 26, 2012 at 03:10 AM
Yours and Amanda's were great!
Karen Goff January 26, 2012 at 12:28 PM
Thanks for playing, everyone! (and feel free to continue adding). We have two winners - Dianne Rose for mentioning party barges, and Ann Schindler for mentioning that Reston has no cemetery. How could I have forgotten those two things? Send me your postal mail addresses (to kareng@patch.com) and I will mail you your Starbucks cards.
Dianne Rose January 26, 2012 at 03:03 PM
So exciting! Thanks for the Starbucks card! I think I'll kayak over to South Lakes Center for a latte as soon as the weather warms up.
