Sorry, Not On The List

Herndon and Oakton make CNN/Money's "Best Places to Live." Why not Reston?

CNN/Money released its annual "Best Places To Live" list on Monday, and three local jurisdictions are in the top 50: Herndon (No. 34), Leesburg (No. 4) and Oakton (No. 36).

The listmakers say they pick the list based on small towns where the economy is stong, schools are good and access to economic and cultural opportunities.

Well, Reston got some CNN/Money love a year ago, clocking in at a respectable No. 16 in the "Top Earning Towns." Nearby Bethesda, MD was No. 1 that year; Great Falls, VA tops the 2011 list - see a DC-area trend?

Here's what CNN/Money said about Reston in 2010:

Neither a town nor a city, this unincorporated community has forged its identity since the mid-1960s when it first began wooing residents to its open air and neighborhood amenities.

Today it still stands apart with a special approach to governance. The Reston Association, a community service organization overseen by elected community members, maintains the high quality of life locals expect.

Environmental excellence has long been its claim to fame, but it pushed that distinction to new heights with the opening of Nature House, a LEED Gold certified year-round environmental education center.

So why no spot on the list in 2011? Lets hear from the residents about what does or does not make this a "Best Place to Live."
