Send Us Your Robert Simon Stories: Introducing 'Robert Simon: 100 Years, 100 Stories'

Send us your stories, anecdotes, photos and favorite things about Reston founder Robert Simon.

The name Robert Edward Simon is literally a part of Reston, the town he founded. While Reston was born in April 1964, its founder had five decades of life experience before he sold Carnegie Hall to the City of New York for $5 million.

But it's what he did after that sale, buying 6,750 acres of farmland in Northern Virginia, that has impacted countless people, families and businesses in the place he called Reston.

In April 2014, the community he founded will turn 50, and Simon will turn 100.

A man like Simon doesn't live for half a century in the community he founded without making a lot of friends and plenty of memories.

Which is why Reston Patch wants to hear those memories. Have you shared a martini with Simon? Sat next to him at a Reston Community Orchestra concert? Seen him on one of his walks around Lake Anne?

Let us know. Send in your memories, thoughts and stories about Bob Simon, in 100 to 200 words. Photos are also welcome. We'll start running them in installments in the coming weeks leading up to April's anniversary/birthday celebrations.

We're trying to collect 100 stories, anecdotes and recollections involving Simon, his ideals, his plans for the community and anything else that comes to mind.

Stories themselves, or questions about the project, can be sent to alex.mcveigh@patch.com, or call 703-554-5023.
