Saturday: Run for Good Causes in Reston

There are two great chances to get out and run to support Reston organizations this weekend: The 10th Annual Fund Run 5K to Benefit Nature House at Walker Nature Education Center and the Band on the Run 5K to support the South Lakes High School Band.

The Fund Run is for all ages and begins at 8 a.m. Saturday. It is 

dedicated to the memory of Christoph Walker. Walker, the son of Vernon Walker, Reston's first naturalist, died while jogging near the center earlier this year.

Register online at www.active.com, in person at the Walker Nature Center, or at the 7:00 am check-in the day of the race.  The entry fee is $30 for Adults and $15 for children.

There will be prizes and refreshments and medals for the male and female first overall as well as the top three finishers in several age categories. There will be random prize drawings after the race. and T-shirts for all pre-registered participants as well as walk-in participants as supplies last.

Funds raised will support The Nature House.

Over at South Lakes High School, the first Band on the Run 5K and Fun Run begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

This race starts and ends on the SLHS track and will continue on the trails in South Reston. The race will benefit the SLHS band program.

Team and individual registrations are accepted for the 5K. The Fun Run is available for kids 12 years and younger. Every Fun Run participant will earn a medal.

Each preregistered runner will receive a commemorative short-sleeve T-shirt with the Band on the Run 5K logo, designed by South Lakes student Kaitlin Soto.

Band members from the South Lakes Pyramid schools will entertain runners on the course and at the start! There will be post-race food, entertainment and individual and team awards.  

Prizes for Overall Winners (1st, 2nd, 3rd Place Finishers) for Male and Females, Age Group Winners, and Teams (Best Musical Theme, Fastest Team, and Team with Most Members Registered prior to Packet Pickup)

Registration Fees

5k Students (18 & Under) - $15.00 through race day

5k $35 March 20-April 19, and $40 to register on Race Day

Fun Run (12 & Under) $7.00 through April 19, $10 Race Day (Must register with an adult. Children will receive a medal at the finish)

Register as a team! Team members register at "regular" fees. Each team must have at least 4 members/Coach fee is waived.
