Reston Smart Market Starts Its Season

Vendors and shoppers looking forward to a fruitful 2011.

Sign of spring: farmers markets.

The Reston Smart Market returned to the corner of Reston Parkway and Sunrise Valley Drive (in theparking lot) on Wednesday.  Smart Market will be at this location every Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.  through the fall.

A steady stream of customers made their way to the vendors, returning and new, to see what the market had to offer this week.

  • Il Bastone Gourmet Foods (formerly Mabelle-Dalmasso) -- Argentine empanadas and pastries and  sausages infused with local wine and herbs.
  • Indigo -- Indigenous aromas and flavors of India for the adventurous gourmet, including chicken tikka, stuffed pranthas, meat chops, and carrot halwa.
  • Martin's Angus Beef -- Grass-fed and grass-finished dry-aged beef served in the D.C. area's finest restaurants.
  • Spring Gap Creamery -- Raw-milk cow's cheese from a West Virginia paw paw patch.
  • The Culinary Herb Farm -- Former chef Kim Kresge moves back into the food chain to raise her own organic herbs for seasoning mixes, oils, and vinegars.

To avoid the bottleneck  at the Colts Necks Road entrance, market goers are encouraged to enter the parking lot further down Sunrise Valley Drive, near the Exxon station and then drive around the back to the market site.
