Reston Events to Remember Boston Victims

Candlelight memorial mass and running tributes happening here.

Two local events in the next few days will pay tribute to the victims injured and killed in the bombing at the Boston Marathon on Monday.

Reston Runners will dedicate its two weekend runs as Solidarity Days.

Saturday, 8 a.m. – Solidarity Day and Boston Marathon Fund (RRCA approved) collection. Sunrise Valley Elementary School - off Sunrise Valley Drive at Cross School Rd. 5 Mile Run3 Mile Walk. Breakfast at Vie de France, Plaza America.

Sunday, 8 a.m. – Solidarity Day and Boston Marathon Fund (RRCA approved) collection. Sunset Hills Commuter Lot - North Loop - NW corner of Sunset Hills Dr. & Wiehle Ave. 10 mile run6 mile walk, 3 mile walk. Breakfast at 

"We are all still reeling from the horrible events in Boston this week and still looking for answers," Reston Runners president Dennis Hays said in an email to members. "As a show of solidarity with the many victims, their families, and the runners of the Boston Marathon, including many of our own, please wear any Boston Marathon shirts or other Marathon or Boston clothing you might have to the runs this weekend. If you don't have any Boston Marathon shirts (like me), perhaps a shirt in Boston Green or something close would be good."

The money collected at the runs will will be given to the special fund established by the Boston Athletic Association (organizers of the marathon) and approved by the RRCA (Road Runners Clubs of America), said Hays.

On Monday,  1421 Wiehle Ave., will hold a Candlelight Memorial Mass at 8 p.m. All are welcome.
