Reston Church Aids Syrian Refugees

United Christian Parish collectes truck full of items to be shipped to Beirut.

United Christian Parish collected nearly 200 bags of supplies to aid Syrian refugees in at a charity drive at the church last week.

"We collected 183 large bags full of clothing and other items, including boots and blankets, to send to Syrian refugees in Lebanon," said Fran McElvey, chair of the missions ministry at the United Christian Parish. "People came from all over the DC Metropolitan Area to bring things, and they also donated more than $3000 to cover shipping costs. We are very grateful that we were able to cross religious and cultural lines and work together for the common goal of helping others."

On Wednesday, the bags were loaded into the large container that will be shipped from Baltimore to Beirut, where the contents will be unloaded and taken to several refugee camps for distribution.
